Attend Christmas tree lighting Saturday

The tree lighting will be Dec. 4 at Assumption Church, 601 S. Central. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m. followed by the lighting at 6 p.m. All are welcome at this free event, which will include Christmas carols.

West Side residents invited to tree lighting

The annual event will take place from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 3 in the 600 block of Laurel community gardens. Food and refreshments will be served. Social distancing and wearing of face masks will be required.

Holiday parade, tree lighting to be held Friday night in Austin

The Austin Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring their annual holiday parade and tree lighting festival Friday Dec. 3. The parade starts at Unity Fellowship Church at Cicero and Madison, with the tree lighting at 6 p.m. in front of the 15th District police station, 5701 W. Madison st.

CTA holiday train, bus visiting Austin the next few weeks

Watch for the CTA’s holiday train and bus, which will be traveling throughout the city in coming weeks. The tradition – in its 30th year – is sponsored by Allstate. The holiday train will be traveling through Austin on Nov. 30, and Dec. 16-18. The holiday bus will be in Austin Dec. 7-9.

Free turkey giveaway Tuesday

At 1 p.m. Nov. 16, 1,000 turkeys will be given away by the Black Village Foundation, Chicago Bears player Tarik Cohen and Lil Durk’s Neighborhood Heroes. Stop by Dearborn Wholesaler Grocers, 4525 W. Madison St. There will also be free COVID testing.

Holiday virtual fundraiser aims to raise hope and some money for the West Side

The telethon, organized by the new nonprofit group Renew 312, will feature singalongs, book readings and an appearance by Santa Claus to raise money for Austin. Tune in on Facebook Live from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
