Meet at Columbus Park tonight at 5:30 p.m. to do a 5K walk sponsored by the Westside Health Authority and the American Heart Association.
Participants meet together with a team of health providers with the goal of managing the disease more effectively.
Circle Family Health Care Network is teaming up with the Austin Weekly News, state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford and Austin Coming Together to hold the second annual West Side Heart & Sole Family 5k Run/2 Mile Walk.
Megan Ervin will make a stop at Because I Care Inc., 5811 West Chicago Ave., at 11 a.m. Aug. 7 to talk to youth about healthy habits in urban communities.
Four are in Austin and one is in Garfield Park, with each running one day per week through late October.
Saturday’s event, sponsored by the Westside Health Authority and Ald. Emma Mitts, featured a three-mile walk and other activities to keep participants moving.
New cooking classes are being offered at the Westside Health Authority.
Building a Healthier Austin hopes more West Siders will make exercise a part of their everyday lives.
Come to La Follette Park on Saturday for a 5K walk, lunch and fitness expo.
