Participate in national walking day

The Westside Health Authority will join the American Heart Association tonight at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate national walking day.

Join them in a 5K walk (30 minutes) around scenic Columbus Park, 500 S. Central Ave. Rain, sleet or snow, participants will meet in the parking lot at Central Avenue and Van Buren Street.

The first 50 people to arrive tonight will receive a pair of red shoe laces and a fitness guide pamphlet from the American Heart Association.

West Siders will join millions of Americans as they pledge to live a healthier lifestyle and get physically active.

Here’s what you can do to join today’s celebration:

1) Register your group for the 5K as soon as possible by emailing jflowers@healthauthority.org with the name of your church/organization, contact person and phone number, and the number of people will be participating.

2)  Wear your sneakers all day, to work and to school.

3)  Bring a bottle of water tonight for the walk at Columbus Park.

4) Spread the word and forward this information to your friends and family.
