Five of the alderman’s challengers want some of the money returned because groups with ties to the Chicago City Council member received it.
The state funding, part of Gov. Pat Quinn’s Neighborhood Recovery Initiative, will go for anti-violence efforts. Austin is one of more than 20 Chicagoland communities to receive the money.
