The bid process for the CPS property that has sit vacant for four years sparked intense criticism at a community meeting last week.
But 28th Ward Ald. Jason Ervin upset some West Siders when he said at a recent community meeting that it’s up to CPS to determine whether to accept one of two bids that have been submitted for the William King Elementary building. One bid is for single-family homes and the other for “school use.”
The community is invited to a Jan. 19th meeting to discuss bringing together Austin Polytechnical Academy, Austin Business & Entreprenuership and VOISE Academy.
If CPS won’t compromise, teachers say they’re willing to hit the picket line for second time in four years.
The group traveled Downtown Wednesday to speak to the Chicago Board of Education about what’s happening at the school, according to the Chicago News Cooperative.
