The event, sponsored by the Better Government Association and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, featured several workshops for parents.
The deadline is 5 p.m. Dec. 9, and applications are available at Neighborhood Housing Services locations or one of the three Austin ward offices.

Next week’s event, at Christ the King Jesuit College Prep, will feature a basketball game and dance hosted by Resurrection alumni who attended school on the same campus.
Saturday’s event will include panel discussions, presentations and vendors selling haircare and beauty items.
Low-income households can apply for help at the South Austin Community Coalition or any CEDA location throughout the city.
The event, hosted by Columbia College Chicago, addressed the decline in employment opportunities for young people.
