The Leaders Network received its largest donation toward its credit union fundraising campaign. So far, the group has raised $62,000 out of $150,000 that is needed to launch a credit union on the West Side.
The event, put on by Passion1st, provided West Side residents with a day focused on the arts, entrepreneurship, mental health and more at the Kehrein Center for the Arts.
The Chicago Children’s Choir will perform Saturday at Catalyst Circle Rock’s Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington Blvd.
The Central Austin Neighborhood Association has reached a settlement with the city of Chicago aimed at addressing the chronic disparity in police response times to calls from white neighborhoods compared to primarily Black and Brown neighborhoods. CANA, led by Serethea and Ron Reid, filed the lawsuit 10 years ago.
Families in need may pick up food at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at Michele Clark High School, 5101 W. Harrison St. The food drive is sponsored by Fathers Who Care, Michele Clark High School and Austin Parent University.
At 1 p.m. Nov. 16, 1,000 turkeys will be given away by the Black Village Foundation, Chicago Bears player Tarik Cohen and Lil Durk’s Neighborhood Heroes. Stop by Dearborn Wholesaler Grocers, 4525 W. Madison St. There will also be free COVID testing.
The event – designed to help people learn how to find and pursue their passions – will include several performances as well as workshops centered around art, music, entrepreneurship and a panel discussing mental health. The all-day event will be held at the Kehrein Center for the Arts.
Stop by the community fall harvest resource fair and music extravaganza Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The free event will be held at By The Hand, 415 N. Laramie Ave. Learn about how to get access to lending, rental assistance, free legal help and more. Lunch will be served at 12 p.m.
Veterans are invited to a free luncheon Nov. 11 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Healing Temple Church, 4941 W. Chicago Ave. There will be raffles, gifts and resources available. Attendees must show proof of vaccination.
