The weekly workshops are being offered to women ages 19 to 45 on Wednesday nights at Original Providence Baptist Church, 515 N. Pine Ave. The next session will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 13.
The next one-hour session will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 at BUILD headquarters, 5100 W. Harrison St. Please RSVP by mail or by phone.
All 14 candidates have been invited to the candidates forum, which will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 9 at Malcolm X College. The forum is sponsored by the Chicago Westside chapter of the NAACP and Austin Coming Together.
Three weeks before the Feb. 26th election, the three aldermanic candidates answered questions about a number of issues at an event organized by Austin Coming Together and South Austin Neighborhood Association.
The three candidates running for alderman – Zerlina Smith, Chris Taliaferro and Dwayne Truss – will answer questions at the nonpartisan event, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5th at Michele Clark High School. The South Central Neighbors Association, Chicago Westside Branch of the NAACP and Austin Coming Together are co-sponsors.
Residents should call 3-1-1 to request a well-being check on someone or report inadequate heat in a residential building. There are six warming centers throughout the city, including one on the West Side at Garfield Community Service Center, 10 S. Kedzie.
Residents in the 29th Ward will have three candidates to choose from when early voting begins this week. First-term Ald. Chris Taliaferro is being challenged by Dwayne Truss and Zerlina A. Smith. A fourth candidate was knocked off the Feb. 26th ballot.
The hiring event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 29 at Columbus Park Refectory, 5701 W. Jackson Blvd. Come prepared to be interviewed, and bring plenty of resumes.
Receive $100 for every gun turned in from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 26 at Friendship Baptist Church, 5200 W. Jackson Blvd.
