Voters will be choosing Chicago’s next mayor today and a new treasurer, too. Polls will be open until 7 p.m.
The meetings will be held every other Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the 25th Police District office, 5555 W. Grand Ave.
The Chicago Westside branch of the NAACP and the Austin Quality of Life Plan’s Taskforce for Civic Engagement will host a candidates forum featuring Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preckwinkle Thursday night.
The application deadline for One Summer Chicago is May 20. More than 32,000 summer job and internship opportunities will be available to Chicagoans ages 14 to 24 from from July 1 through Aug. 9.
The event will be held from 12 to 3 p.m. March 23 at Sankofa Cultural Arts Center, 5820 W. Chicago Ave.
Jimmy D. Lee of Goodcity will lead the workshop that will provide fundraising tips for nonprofits. It will be held 10 a.m.. to noon March 23 at the Oak Park Library.
Voters will also be voting for treasurer, but West Siders won’t be selecting an alderman in the runoff because the incumbents were reelected Feb. 26th in the 28th, 29th and 37th wards.
Patrons who purchase a fitness center membership (for a month, three months or annual) from March 18 to 24 will receive a complimentary water bottle and towel while supplies last.
Archivist Beverly Cook will deliver a presentation on Era Bell Thompson, who worked for Ebony magazine for more than 30 years. Thompson published an autobiography as well as a second book, “Africa, Land of My Fathers,” based on a tour she took of 18 African countries.
