Help find youth safe spaces in Austin

The first 40 young people ages 14 to 24 to sign up for Saturday’s event will receive a $100 stipend. Be part of a day of creative thinking and making connections – from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Austin Library branch, 5615 W. Race Ave.

Turn in your gun this week

The Chicago Police Department will be accepting guns – no questions asked – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 24 at Corinthian Temple Church of God, 4520 W. Washington Blvd. Residents will receive $100 for each gun turned in, and $10 for BB guns, air guns and replica guns.

Open mic at the Austin library

Everyone is invited to the Westside Writers reading series that will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Austin library, 5615 W. Race Ave. The work of Anita Davis, Vee Harrison and Orion Meadows will be featured.

City seeks input from Austin residents

Officials are seeking feedback on the “We Will Chicago” plan that marks the first time the city has revisited its comprehensive plan since the mid-1960s. Stop by Austin Town Hall Sept. 15 from 1 to 6 p.m. to complete a survey.
