Veterans will be honored Monday from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the 29th Ward Veterans’ Peace Garden at 5413 W. Madison St. (across from MacArthur’s restaurant). The public is invited to this free event, which is sponsored by the Austin Veterans Community Organization.
The free open rehearsal of The Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest will be held at the Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington Blvd., at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The symphony – under the direction of Riccardo Muti – will be performing selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.
Food will be served from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9th at 5200 W. Jackson Blvd. The free meal is offered every Tuesday of the month.
Musician Larry Taylor will be performing at the event, which is a fundraiser for Austin youth to travel. Stop by 5940 W. Chicago Ave. from 12 to 6 p.m. Nov. 9th.
West Side residents who attended the meeting were asked two questions: What are the key problems that you would like police to address, and how would you like the police to engage more with the community? Another community conversation to discuss the strategic plan the Chicago Police Department is developing will be held Nov. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Zoe Life Ministries, 3 S. Laramie Ave.
The monthly farmers market will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8; from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10 at 5051 W. Chicago Ave. There will be a large selection of fresh produce, recipe demonstrations, free samples, giveaways and more.
A cannabis forum will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 5 at 5437 W. Division. Sponsors of the event are the 15th Police District, 29th Ward Ald. Chris Taliaferro, MedMen, Westside Health Authority and the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.
Stay safe on Halloween! The 11th and 15th Police Districts CAPS is hosting a trunk or treat event from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cicero and Madison avenues. From 5 to 9 p.m., Roman Morrow in collaboration with St. Paul Lutheran Church will host a safe haven celebration at 846 N. Menard.
Residents have until Oct. 31 to buy a city sticker for 2019 and pay no back charges or late fees. Starting Nov. 15, Chicago residents can apply to have some or all of their city sticker tickets forgiven; the deadline to apply for sticker ticket debt relief is Dec. 15.
