The violence prevention program held an advocacy luncheon Wednesday, with students, residents and community leaders, to reflect on its first year working with Austin youth.
Identified areas of high-crime will receive greater police attention and church groups, block club leaders, police and residents will picket the spots every Wednesday in June in an attempt to reduce violence.
The March 5 screening at Austin Town Hall brought residents and activists together with a mission to prevent violence and save lives.
They’re not a “good look” for the community, says 28th Ward Ald. Jason Ervin.
The Jan. 28 event included motivational speeches and performances to celebrate the student’s efforts to address issues young people face.
Members, who will meet tonight, encourage residents to get involved and support initiatives to improve the community.
Its focus on danger, violence and discrimination has Ald. Jason Ervin reconsidering an ordinance to penalize women involved in the industry.
The show is part of a series that offers an entertainment approach to community healing for West Side youth.
Many ideas exchanged about how to keep young people out of trouble in Austin, which has the third highest number of teen arrests in the city.
