West Side veterans invited to holiday party on Sunday

This free event is being held for vets and their families from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 10 at Columbus Park Refectory, 5701 W. Jackson Blvd. There will be food, music and more.

Veterans are invited to a free luncheon Nov. 11 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Healing Temple Church, 4941 W. Chicago Ave. There will be raffles, gifts and resources available. Attendees must show proof of vaccination.
About 30 people gathered at the start of Memorial Day weekend at the 29th Ward Veterans Peace Garden, 5413 W. Madison St., to celebrate the life of Robert Thomas and other veterans.
The Austin Veterans Community Organization presents a resource fair Nov. 11 fro 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the 29th Ward Veterans Peace Garden, 5413 W. Madison (across the street from MacArthur’s restaurant).
Veterans were honored Monday at the 29th Ward’s Veterans’ Peace Garden, 5413 W. Madison St. The event – held in the midst of falling snow and bitter winds – was sponsored by the recently formed Austin Veterans Community Organization (AVCO). The group will be meeting the third Wednesday of every month at noon at the 29th Ward Veterans’ Peace Garden when it’s warm enough to meet outside and at MacArthur’s restaurant during the winter.
Veterans will be honored Monday from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the 29th Ward Veterans’ Peace Garden at 5413 W. Madison St. (across from MacArthur’s restaurant). The public is invited to this free event, which is sponsored by the Austin Veterans Community Organization.

Wednesday’s celebration was organized by the West Side Historical Preservation Society, Garfield Park Advisory Council and Greg Zanis of Crosses for Losses.
State Rep. Camille Lilly is hosting the event at Guerin College Prep High School in River Grove from 12:30 to 6 p.m. June 30th.
“This is a great example of what can happen when you have a community, elected officials and companies coming together for the benefit of veterans and for the benefit of communities,” Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin said at the May 24th ground breaking.
