Austin Coming Together invites West Siders to a winter wonder blast celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at 557 N. Central Ave.
Help plant trees May 11 at BUILD’s Austin Grown community garden, 5100 W. Harrison.
Chicago residents can request a free tree by calling 311 or going online. Trees can be planted on city-owned parkway in front of a homeowner’s property or in the front yard facing the street.
The tree displayed outside the 15th District police station at 5701 W. Madison St. was donated by ComEd after a city forester noticed several spruces planted a few miles away on the utility’s property. The tree that was donated was growing too close to power lines and could have at some point caused power disruptions.
Members of the community gathered Dec. 6 for the eighth annual event that took them down Madison Avenue and ended in front of the 15th District Chicago Police headquarters.
Check out our slide show of the event, which attracted dozens of West Side residents.
There are 23 drop-off sites throughout the city. Click here for the full list.
