Eligible households can apply for up to $30,000 in free assistance to pay past due mortgage payments, property taxes, property insurance, and delinquent homeowner and/or condo association fees. The deadline to apply to the Illinois Homeowners Assistance Fund is May 31.
Local residents are being urged to check the Cook County treasurer’s web site to make sure they don’t have unpaid taxes needing to be paid. Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas will conduct the first sale in more than two years of delinquent property taxes on Nov. 5.
Schedule your 15-minute appointment between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3. Appointments may be made online, by phone or via email, and will be held in Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson’s 1st district office at 6614 W. North Ave.
Schedule an appointment with staff from Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi’s office, who will be meeting with property owners on Tuesday, July 14 in state Rep. La Shawn Ford’s office, at 5051 W. There are more than 3,000 properties in Cook County’s District 1 – much of it on Chicago’s West Side – in danger of being sold at the annual tax auction that begins May 3.
