Austin’s ALDI, one of only two grocery chains in the neighborhood, reopened Thursday after an extensive remodel. The recently remodeled store, located at 5926 W. Fillmore St., closed for renovations June 2 as part of an ongoing nationwide update and expansion to existing ALDI grocery stores. It’s just one of two major chains providing groceries to a community of nearly 100,000 people. The other is Walmart, at 4650 W. North Ave. It also was recently remodeled.
Austin’s youth-led market, Austin Harvest, is back to bring fresh, affordable produce to the neighborhood. It’s open at 423 N. Laramie Ave. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m.
Stop by Austin Town Hall, 5610 W. Lake St. on Thursdays between 1 and 6 p.m. through the end of October. You can find Black-owned, farm-fresh produce, delicious juices and table-ready meals. Several forms of payment accepted. Eat healthy and support local businesses.
Three boxes of grains, produce and meat will be distributed per household from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 at the corner of Leamington and Kinzie. You can walk or drive up.
Stop by the Westside Health Authority’s Good Neighbor Campaign meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. March 10 at 5437 W. Division. Forty Acres Fresh Market will be selling fresh produce; cash, credit card and SNAP will be accepted.
Forty Acres Fresh Market will hold its monthly produce pop up in Austin on Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; on Jan. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and on Jan. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The featured local chef will be Nubian Catering.
The monthly farmers market will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8; from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10 at 5051 W. Chicago Ave. There will be a large selection of fresh produce, recipe demonstrations, free samples, giveaways and more.
The latest market will operate at 5051 W. Chicago Ave. on July 12 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; July 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and July 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a large selection of affordable fresh produce, recipe demonstrations, free samples and giveaways.

This year’s season starts Tuesday, June 2 at 330 N. Lotus Ave.
