West Side residents invited to free classical music concert Tuesday

The event, put on by Passion1st, provided West Side residents with a day focused on the arts, entrepreneurship, mental health and more at the Kehrein Center for the Arts.
The Chicago Children’s Choir will perform Saturday at Catalyst Circle Rock’s Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington Blvd.
Outdoor dining spaces, live music and art come to Chicago Avenue and Madison Street on Friday, Sept. 10 from 12-2 p.m. and 5-8:30 p.m. as part of Austin’s first al fresco event.
Celebrate the blues this weekend in the heart of Austin’s Soul City Corridor. The free performances will be held from 12 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at Chicago and Mayfield. Stop by Friday and Saturday for other activities, including art and spoken word.
The seventh annual blues fest will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at Columbus Park Refectory, 5701 W. Jackson. The event is being sponsored by the Illinois Alliance, Ald. Chris Taliaferro and the Issac S. Carothers Youth and Senior Foundation.
The Oakland, California-based Family Independence Initiative awarded 400 Black leaders across the country direct investments of $3,500. While none of the Chicago recipients are Austin residents, some do work on the West Side.
All are invited to the show, which will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at Church On The Block, 500 N. Laramie. Doors for “The Encounter,” presented by Marqual and Chi-Worship, open at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the Dec. 21 concert are free. Doors open at the Kehrein Center, 5628 W. Washington Blvd. at 5 p.m. The performance is from 6 to 8 p.m. and features Rachel Washington.
The free open rehearsal of The Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest will be held at the Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington Blvd., at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The symphony – under the direction of Riccardo Muti – will be performing selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.
