West Side credit union campaign half way to meeting $300,000 fundraising goal

The Leaders Network reported this week that $155,940 has been raised in less than a year. The group of faith-based leaders is still accepting donations.

West Side faith and community leaders have raised $43,850 of $150,000 seed money needed to get a match from philanthropic groups. The Leaders Network is asking others to join the founders circle and commit to making a $5,000 contribution.

West Side residents help decide how $1 million will be spent in the 29th Ward

Sixty percent of the $1 million will go to street repairs and resurfacing in the ward. The rest of the projects to be funded – and listed here in order of popularity – are: street safety upgrades, community gardens, a fitness course at the Austin Town Hall, bike lanes, a mural in Columbus Park and public art at Sayre Language Academy. Nearly 400 residents voted this time around.

The 8th grade class is competing in an annual, year-long competition that introduces investing basics and the importance of financial intelligence to hundreds of students in the Chicago area. Last year, the 8th graders from St. Catherine – St. Lucy placed third out of 64 teams.
