Austin residents need to make the choices in two critical races: Who should be Chicago’s next mayor, and who should represent the 29th Ward in the Chicago City Council? The last day to vote is Tuesday, April 4th.
Rev. Al Sharpton will join local leaders on Sunday morning at a get-out-the-vote event. They want to boost the low voter turnout in the first round of voting. Early voting for the April 4th runoff began earlier this week and continues until Election Day.
Because neither candidate could confirm their attendance, the forum has been cancelled. The event featuring Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson and former CPS CEO Paul Vallas was going to be held March 23 at Kehrein Center for the Arts.
After staying neutral in the Feb. 28th race, the Leaders Network this week announced it’s supporting Cook County Commissioner Brandon Johnson over Paul Vallas in the April 4th runoff.
Register now for the conversation, which will be held at 4:30 p.m. March 15 at Thalia Hall. It will also be streamed live. The date and time for the conversation with candidate Paul Vallas will be announced soon.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28. Voters will be selecting members of the Chicago City Council and the new Police District Councils as well as mayor.
Six of the nine candidates discussed some of the key topics affecting West Side residents as voters make their choice in the Feb. 28th election. Early voting expands to all 50 ward on Feb. 13.
A mayoral candidate forum will be held at New Mount Pilgrim MB Church, 4301 W. Washington on Jan. 26. Attendees are asked to register before Thursday’s event, which is the same day early voting begins.
Johnson is backed by the Chicago Teachers Union and United Working Families. He is the ninth candidate to join the race to challenge incumbent Mayor Lori Lightfoot in the Feb. 28th primary.
Amara Enyia, former executive director of the Austin Chamber of Commerce, and four of her senior mayoral campaign staffers face a class-action wage and overtime theft grievance. More than 20 staffers say they’re owed money from the February 2019 race.
