The Chicago Tribune recently reported many alderman don’t refuse optional annual pay increases and some haven’t taken furlough days along with city workers who were required to do so through last June.
She was one of four Cook County Commissioners who didn’t take any or part of the unpaid days, a measure they agreed on when the 2011 budget was passed last February.
Most county employees have gone without pay to stave off more layoffs.
Earlean Collins, who represents Austin on the 17-member Cook County Board, reversed her earlier decision. Most of the county’s 23,000-some workers are taking furlough days to help balance the budget.
