Fall festival set for Saturday

Beth Anne Place will be holding its fall festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 28. at 1143 N. Lavergne. There will be pumpkin carving, entertainment, arts and crafts, and more.

BUILD will hold a bike ride for peace from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 24th. Participants are encouraged to register in advance for the event, which begins at 5100 W. Harrison St. The Chicago Community Alliance will hold “Summer Fest West” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marshall High School, 3300 W. Jackson Blvd. City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin and 28th Ward Ald. Jason Ervin will host the event.
Last week’s “summer of opportunity” event connected young people and families to a range of resources for a successful school year while celebrating summer with a positive community gathering.
Local advocates, community organizations and businesses will kick off a safe and successful school year from 12 to 7 p.m. Aug. 17 on Harrison Street from Laramie to Lavergne.
The city of Chicago is looking for performers who can dance, act or read poetry. Tryouts will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 25 at La Follette Park, 1333 N. Laramie.
The free event will be held July 31 and Aug. 1 at Austin Town Hall. All are welcome!
West Side residents are invited to the free event from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the 5400 block of West Ferdinand.
From 12 to 6 p.m., join others at Bethel Lutheran Church, 130 N. Keeler Ave.
A planning meeting will be held 6 p.m. May 8 at Sankofa Cultural Arts & Business Center.
