Archivist Beverly Cook will deliver a presentation on Era Bell Thompson, who worked for Ebony magazine for more than 30 years. Thompson published an autobiography as well as a second book, “Africa, Land of My Fathers,” based on a tour she took of 18 African countries.
The third annual event, put on by the Clifton P. Lewis Foundation, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 6 at the West Chicago Library branch, 4856 W. Chicago Ave. There will be food, entertainment by the Jessie White Tumblers and a school supply giveaway.
On the second Monday of the month, barber Josh Kruel, a former Austin resident, gives teens free haircuts – and also shares his thoughts about education and life.
The Austin Branch Library at 5615 W. Race Ave. is one of 49 locations out of 78 citywide where residents can get free assistance.
Everyone is welcome at the Austin branch’s open house June 20th. Stop by 5615 W. Race Ave. from 3 to 7 p.m.
This month’s activity – to be held at the Austin branch from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. March 28 – is learning to arm knit and finger crochet.
The free session will be held March 26 and then again on March 28 at 5615 W. Race Ave.
Applications are due soon; the programs begin Oct. 1.
