Four candidates are collecting signatures to challenge longtime Ald. Emma Mitts, who is seeking re-election Feb. 24.
Voters cast their ballots in greater numbers than the last midterm election in 2010.
Fifty-one sites throughout the city will be open through March 15.
Voters will choose between Ald. Sharon Dixon and challenger Michael Chandler. Polls close at 7 p.m.
The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners said the issues they learned about were not out of the ordinary. Officials will be taking calls again April 5 when the runoff in the 24th Ward takes place.
An Illinois appellate court ruled Friday that West Siders can’t vote for candidate Carmelita Earls, leaving Ald. Jason Ervin and William Siegmund on Tuesday’s ballot.
It will be January before West Side residents know who they can vote for in the 28th, 29th and 37th Ward races. A record number of candidate objections has delayed the work of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.
The Chicago Board of Election Commissions will continue this week to make decisions about which 28th and 29th Ward candidates are eligible for the election.
