Chicago Park District celebrates inclusivity with MasQUEERade Ball at Columbus Park

The Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks event series welcomes a new initiative into its fold, the teen-led Queering the Parks (QTP) initiative. Chicago youth from across the city, who identify as LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, Asexual/Ally, Plus) are collaborating to support safer public spaces for their communities by hosting inclusive events. The event series will culminate with a MasQUEERade Ball on Sunday, Nov. 17 at Columbus Park Refectory, 5701 W. Jackson Blvd. from 6 to 10 pm.

Bike ride, parade and more this weekend on the West Side

BUILD will hold a bike ride for peace from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 24th. Participants are encouraged to register in advance for the event, which begins at 5100 W. Harrison St. The Chicago Community Alliance will hold “Summer Fest West” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marshall High School, 3300 W. Jackson Blvd. City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin and 28th Ward Ald. Jason Ervin will host the event.

BUILD is celebrating the end of summer camp from 12 to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 at 5100 W. Harrison St. State Rep. La Shawn Ford and state Sen. Kimberly Lightfoot are sponsoring the “I count” event to highlight the importance of the 2020 Census, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the 800 block of Lawler.

Summer block party Friday in Austin

The Westside Health Authority along with its sponsors will be hosting its annual community playstreets event today from 3 to 6 p.m. at 5000 W. Van Buren. There will be music, food and a moon bounce.
