New grants for small businesses hurt by COVID-19

The city announced this week it will distribute $5,000 grants to up to 1,000 businesses operating in neighborhoods like Austin that have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m Monday, May 4, with winners being announced on May 11.

Free masks available Thursday in Austin

Austin Coming Together will be distributing the masks from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 23 at three sites in Austin: the Westside Health Authority’s youth development center at 5437 W. Division St.; By The Hand Club for Kids at 415 N. Laramie Ave.; and Assumption Greek Orthodox Church at 601 S. Central Ave.

Free legal advice available Saturday

Attorneys will be taking calls from the public and offering legal advice from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 18. Calls will be accepted through the Chicago Bar Association’s “call a lawyer” program at (312) 554-2001.
