The Austin African American Business Networking Association is sponsoring the event, which will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 28th at Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Jackson Blvd. Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx will be the keynote speaker, and Chicago Sun-Times columnist Maudlyne Ihejirika will MC. Tickets are $40.

The free event will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 at Columbus Park, 500 S. Central Ave. Congressman Danny Davis is hosting the event along with several other elected officials and local groups.
After years of work involving dozens of West Side residents, the spotlight will be on the plan from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Dec. 15. The event – organized by Austin Coming Together – will be held at Michele Clark High School, 5101 W. Harrison St.
The Chicago Community Alliance will hold the event from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 9th at the Garfield Park Golden Dome, 100 N. Central Park. Ald. Jason Ervin and state Rep. Melissa Conyears-Ervin are the hosts.
The signatures filed by incumbent Ald. Chris Taliaferro (29th) have been challenged, while the petitions filed by Ald. Emma M. Mitts (37th) and Jason C. Ervin don’t face a challenge.
The newly elected commissioner and the rest of the Cook County Board is being sworn in Dec. 3 for four-year terms.
The Loretto Hospital is collecting boots, coats, hats, gloves, shirts, pants, shoes and other clothing for its patients. There are drop boxes at the hospital, 645 S. Central Ave., and at 5120 W. Jackson Blvd.
