The community is invited to participate in a march around City Hall Dec. 4 to protest the way Laquan McDonald’s killing has been handled.
Elected officials hope peace and calm will continue as more people view the shooting footage.
Elected officials, clergy urge residents to peacefully protest and avoid violence after they see the footage of Laquan McDonald’s death.
The seventh and eighth-graders teamed up with Columbia College Chicago to produce music, videos, stories and poetry to express their feelings about violence on the West Side.
Students from the Academy of Scholastic Achievement were recognized for their work, as were others from across the city.
The support will be used to fund Speak Up, Speak Out for Austin, a new program for middle and high school students to share their stories and report on issues important to the West Side.
