The Illinois Senate will hold a hearing March 5 to consider legislation that would increase the hourly pay from $8.25 to $10 by July 1, 2016.
Elected officials attending a hearing organized by state Rep. La Shawn Ford hear from many who want more to be done to help the unemployed.
Thousands of Cook County residents will remain in their $10-an-hour jobs through Jan. 15. Gov. Pat Quinn will tap money from the state’s tobacco settlement to keep the program going another six weeks.
The event, sponsored by Rep. La Shawn K. Ford, the Chicago Urban League and others, will take place at Malcolm X College.
