The annual, free meal will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 20 at Michele Clark High School, 5101 W. Harrison St. Mayor Lori Lightfoot will attend as will a number of other elected officials. All fathers, families and West Side stakeholders are invited.
BUILD will hold a bike ride for peace from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 24th. Participants are encouraged to register in advance for the event, which begins at 5100 W. Harrison St. The Chicago Community Alliance will hold “Summer Fest West” from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Marshall High School, 3300 W. Jackson Blvd. City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin and 28th Ward Ald. Jason Ervin will host the event.
The #100blocks100churches campaign continues this summer throughout the West Side. Every Wednesday night at 6 p.m., the faith-based community takes a stand to end violence in Chicago’s neighborhoods by joining together and wearing red.
Members of the 15th District CAPS office, various Austin churches and community groups have been “loitering” on several corners in Austin every Wednesday in June and July since 2010 in an attempt to reduce crime.
More than 30,000 Austin residents are supported by Catholic Charities’ various services. The center, which has been open since December, is located at 5645 W. Corcoran Place.
The West Side Historical Society – in partnership with Ald. Jason Ervin, AustinTalks and other partners – will host this year’s Juneteenth festival and parade for peace June 22-24 in Garfield Park. Vendors are invited to contact organizers; VIP passes are also available.
The event – which will be held from 12 to 4 p.m. at Austin Town Hall, 5610 W. Lake St. – will feature art and peace making workshops, performances, free food and refreshments.
The event will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Sept. 2 at Douglass High School, 543 N. Waller Ave.
Will you organize a group? Join state Rep. La Shawn Ford and other community leaders 5:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at St. Martin De Porres Church.
Registration starts at 9 a.m., then the biking begins at 10 a.m. There will be music and snacks before the ride, which sets out from BUILD’s headquarters at 5100 W. Harrison St.
