An Illinois appellate court ruled Friday that West Siders can’t vote for candidate Carmelita Earls, leaving Ald. Jason Ervin and William Siegmund on Tuesday’s ballot.
It will be January before West Side residents know who they can vote for in the 28th, 29th and 37th Ward races. A record number of candidate objections has delayed the work of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.
Hearings for both races start Wednesday at the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners. Check out the schedule.
Candidates have until Dec. 6 to let Mayor Daley know they’re interested in replacing Ed Smith for the final few months of his term, which ends in mid-May.
The longtime alderman’s resignation, less than three months before the Feb. 22nd election, could give Maywood Village Manager Jason Ervin a boost over the nine others who filed for the seat.
