The Central Austin Neighborhood Association has reached a settlement with the city of Chicago aimed at addressing the chronic disparity in police response times to calls from white neighborhoods compared to primarily Black and Brown neighborhoods. CANA, led by Serethea and Ron Reid, filed the lawsuit 10 years ago.
More than 20 elected officials – including Congressman Danny Davis, state Reps. La Shawn Ford and Camille Lilly, and state Sen. Kimberly Lightford – will be hosting a “tele” town hall April 7 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the impact of COVID-19 on black communities.
The local branch urges everyone to get involved in the fight for economic and social justice. These issues will be discussed at a conference in April and at local meetings the first Saturday of every month.
