Rep. Camille Lilly will be at Austin Town Hall Nov. 19th.
More than 50 people gathered Monday outside McNair Elementary to announce a campaign to get the issue on the February ballot.
Some hope CPS will alter some of the Safe Passage routes, while others continue to advocate for an elected board of education.
Members of the community gathered Dec. 6 for the eighth annual event that took them down Madison Avenue and ended in front of the 15th District Chicago Police headquarters.
Elected officials joined the advocates at the Nov. 19 meeting at La Follette Park Field House to hear about the benefits of mentoring and youth councils.
Advocates and some elected officials hope this will lead the legislature to change the law that allows the mayor to appoint all seven members.
In many precincts across Austin, voters will be asked if Chicago should have an elected school board.
Tuesday’s meeting was the first of three gatherings for residents to discuss the question, which will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot in many precincts across the city.
