Work out for free at any of 71 park district fitness centers through Sunday, Jan. 7.
Two schools in Austin participate in Sistema Ravinia, which provides music education in under-resourced schools. The goal is for the 3rd through 8th graders to develop a life-long appreciation for music and the arts. “The bottom line is that it helps to develop the whole child. It helps to develop the left and right brain,” said Shemeka Nash, the orchestra’s conductor and an Austin resident.
On Dec. 19th, a food giveaway will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. (while supplies last) at the 29th Ward office, 6272 W. North Ave. Then at 1 p.m. a Christmas a community celebration will take place at the Good Neighbor Center, 5437 W. Division
Ald. Chris Taliaferro will be distributing toys, diapers, clothing, household supplies and more – while supplies last – from 12 to 2 p.m. Dec. 17 at 6272 W. North Ave.
The free screenings are available on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to uninsured or underinsured residents of Austin and surrounding neighborhoods.
Austin Coming Together invites West Siders to a winter wonder blast celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at 557 N. Central Ave.
West Side families are invited to a holiday dinner and community musical Dec. 11 at Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington Blvd.
Do some holiday shopping at the holiday market from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 9 at Urban Essentials Coffee Cae, 5300 W. Chicago Ave.
Attend a free workshop with Cook County Commissioner Larry Rogers Jr. and state Rep. La Shawn Ford from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Austin public library, 5615 W. Race Ave.
