The annual, free meal will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 20 at Michele Clark High School, 5101 W. Harrison St. Mayor Lori Lightfoot will attend as will a number of other elected officials. All fathers, families and West Side stakeholders are invited.
The North Lawndale Legal Clinic will hold its monthly availability on Nov 19th from 5 to 7 p.m, with doors opening at 4 p.m. The clinic – sponsored by Winston & Strawn LLP, UCAN and LAF – will be held at 3605 W. Fillmore St. Lawyers will be available to consult about child custody and support; divorce; domestic violence; expungement; housing and eviction; powers of attorney; public benefits; and other civil legal issues.
Learn about how to reverse the course of diabetes at this two-hour event from 1 to 3 p.m. Nov. 18 in the 6th floor auditorium of Loretto Hospital, 645 S. Central Ave. The event will include a cooking demonstration and a healthy lunch.
Admission to the 12 p.m. game, held at Christ the King School, 5088 W. Jackson Blvd., is a non-perishable food item. Cash donations also will be accepted. The event is being hosted by The Friendship Baptist Church of Chicago and its pastor Reginald E. Bachus.
The West Side dance troupe will celebrate its 10-year anniversary Saturday, Nov. 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington St. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
Stop by 5100 W. Harrison St. from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Nov. 16 for a building tour and learn about the non-profit’s work in Austin and its plans for the future. Refreshments will be served.
Veterans will be honored Monday from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the 29th Ward Veterans’ Peace Garden at 5413 W. Madison St. (across from MacArthur’s restaurant). The public is invited to this free event, which is sponsored by the Austin Veterans Community Organization.
The free open rehearsal of The Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest will be held at the Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington Blvd., at 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10. The symphony – under the direction of Riccardo Muti – will be performing selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet.
Musician Larry Taylor will be performing at the event, which is a fundraiser for Austin youth to travel. Stop by 5940 W. Chicago Ave. from 12 to 6 p.m. Nov. 9th.
The monthly farmers market will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8; from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9; and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10 at 5051 W. Chicago Ave. There will be a large selection of fresh produce, recipe demonstrations, free samples, giveaways and more.
