Chicagoans meet in Austin to discuss if CPS should have an elected board

Tuesday’s meeting was the first of three gatherings for residents to discuss the question, which will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot in many precincts across the city.
The group made a stop at Austin Town Hall Sept. 22 to hear stories from residents and guests for their upcoming storytelling and musical interpretation series.
A few thousand people are expected to participate in this Saturday’s Out of the Darkness event, including some Austin residents.
Union members say they have the right to demand wrap-around services and other help children need to succeed. The mayor plans to go to court today to get schools back in operation.
