Christ the King’s Lady Gladiators basketball team welcomed members of the WNBA Chicago Sky to campus Wednesday for a clinic and practice.

The Chicago Sky’s 2014 Round 1 draft pick, center Markeisha Gatling from North Carolina State, joined guard Courtney Clements and coach Christie Sides for a basketball clinic, drills and full WNBA-level practice with the team.

This has been great season for the Lady Gladiators basketball team, as they scored points both on the basketball court and in the classroom.

The Lady Gladiators ended their season with their first trip to conference sectionals, while maintaining a team GPA of above 3.2 throughout the entire season.

Varsity Coach Edward Douglas is proud of his young team and its 20-6 record. He is hopeful the young team will continue to be successful in the classroom and on the court.

“We are excited to welcome the Chicago Sky to Christ the King. The Sky’s commitment to excellence on the court and in the community mirrors the commitment we expect of our student athletes in the classroom, at work and on the court,” Clement V. Martin, president of Christ the King Jesuit College Prep, said in a written statement.

Seniors basketball players Faith Roberts, Charay Jordan and Jasmine Todd-Street have been a major part of the team the past four years and are a part of the Class of 2014 – the third graduating class in a row to achieve 100 percent college acceptance.

The 60 members of the Class of 2014 have been awarded over $1.8 million in financial aid and various academic scholarships.

The graduating seniors have worked incredibly hard over the past four years to earn admission into various colleges and universities all across the country, including Loyola University Chicago, Marquette University, Trinity College, Xavier University, Michigan State University and the University of Iowa, among many others.
