Longtime Congressman Danny Davis says he’ll seek another two-year term, countering some observers’ prediction that he’d be retiring.
During a press conference Sunday – the day he celebrated his 74th birthday – Davis mocked what he said were rumors of his retirement.
The Chicago Sun-Times quoted Davis, who was first elected to Congress in 1996, as saying, “People have been suggesting I may not run for re-election. I do not know what that’s all about.”

Last month before Davis announced his re-election bid, Crain’s Chicago Business columnist Greg Hinz reported that Downtown Ald. Brendan Reilly (42nd) was considering a run, as was West Side Ald. Walter Burnett (27th).
