Consumers who enroll in a Marketplace health plan must do so by Monday, Dec. 23, and they must pay their premiums by Dec. 31 for coverage to start Jan. 1

For Medicaid eligible Illinois residents, there is no deadline to apply.

Get Covered Illinois is also advising individuals who were referred to the Illinois Medicaid program to reapply via the state website. That’s because of an issue with the federal website that incorrectly referred Illinois constituents to Medicaid who are, in fact, not eligible for the program.

Here are some helpful hints for people applying or re-applying for healthcare coverage:

*Residents should use the getcoveredillinois.gov website or call the GCI Help Desk at (866) 311-1119 to reapply. The help desk is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, including the weekend. Individuals may also work with a local navigator.

*There is no deadline for Medicaid-eligible consumers to submit their applications.

*If the screening tool refers you back to the federal website and you are unable to remove the application within your existing account, GCI recommends you create a new Marketplace account with a different email address and submit a new application.

*If the screening tool refers you to the state’s Medicaid application site, you can choose to submit an application there. The ABE Call Center’s number is (800) 843-6154.
