Participating West Side parks include Amundsen, 6200 W. Bloomingdale Ave.; Columbus, 500 S. Central Ave.; Garfield, 100 N. Central Park Ave.; and La Follette, 1333 N. Laramie Ave.
The park district’s new ad improved fitness centers offer a high-quality, affordable alternative to private gyms. The centers feature state-of-the-art equipment, such as computerized treadmills, cross trainers, upright bikes, recumbent bikes, free weights and benches, cable cross-overs, multi-station weight machines and core-focused weight equipment.
A membership is required to use a fitness center beyond the free work-out week.
One-month, 3-month and year-long fitness center memberships are available to purchase here. Membership rates range from $30 to $60 for three months, a fraction of the cost of commercial gyms. Accessible equipment for people with disabilities is available at 40 fitness centers.
In addition, park-goers may register for winter fitness classes. Fitness and wellness options are available for a range of ages and abilities, including aquatic aerobics, cycling, Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and strength training, to name a few.
