The city will begin accepting applications for the 2022 shared cost sidewalk program at 6 a.m. Jan. 10.
Thousands of Chicagoans have participated in the voluntary program, whose cost per square foot charged to property owners is well below what a private contractor would bill. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities may qualify for an additional discount.
Applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis, with the number of participants based on how much funding is available. The program typically reaches capacity quickly, so Chicagoans are encouraged to apply quickly. If you applied in previous years, you must apply again.
Applications are accepted by calling the city at 311; through the city’s service request website at https://311.chicago.gov; or through the free CHI311 mobile app.
