Dozens of bikers – including state Rep. La Shawn Ford – will ride 50 miles across Chicago on June 3 to raise funds for By The Hand Club For Kids.

Now in its fifth year, Bike Across Chicago will take riders to all six By The Hand Club’s after-school sites, with students, families, volunteers and community partners cheering them along the route.

The event culminates with a celebration at the finish line in Altgeld-Murray, at 13015 S. Ellis Ave.

“Not only is this an opportunity to view the rich diversity of our city and its neighborhoods, it’s also a great time to support a wonderful organization that is helping a lot of people,” Ford said. “The money raised from this event is going to directly help kids who can really benefit from after-school care. We’re always talking about kids needing something to do; By The Hand continues to step up and provide the space and programs needed.”

Saturday’s participants will gather in Cabrini Green at 418 W. Oak St. at 8 a.m. for a multi-stop journey through Chicago’s neighborhoods, including Austin and Englewood. To ensure a safe journey, participants will be escorted by the Cook County sheriff’s office.
