Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago will open a new club at Austin College and Career Academy High School next month.
Made possible by a grant from the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers, the new facility will provide academic, character development and lifestyle programs to about 40 to 50 youth.
The new Austin club, at 231 N. Pine Ave., is accepting registration for programming launching in September when students head back to school.
In addition to Austin College and Career Academy High School, there are also clubs at Austin High School, Brunson Math and Science Specialty Elementary School and John Hay Community Academy.
The out-of-school programming will be held over 30 to 40 weeks of the year, and focus on academic enrichment, character development, pro-social behavior, mentoring, recreation, physical activity and art.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to extend the reach of our programs and services,” said Mimi LeClair, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, which has helped more than 20,000 youth ages 5 to 18 for more than 115 years.
