Celebrate Martin Luther King Day Monday in Austin

By |

Happy Birthday, Dr. King! This year, I look forward to teaming up with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority (Tau Xi Zeta Chapter) to host our 14th annual family health challenge honoring Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This event – which includes honoring Dr. King with a special historical program and healthy activities such as learning about healthy eating, fun games, yoga, African dance and gymnastics – will take place at George Leland Stem School, 512 S. Lavergne Ave. from
9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20.

All students K-12 and their families are invited. Additional activities will include programs about financial literacy, mental health, mentoring and trauma training. Students can also use this program for service learning opportunities.

On the national holiday to honor Dr. King, it is great that we can come together to not only learn more about Dr. King’s life but actually participate in activities that promote healthy living in our community.

Zeta Phi Beta has worked hard at the health challenge in past years, and I am happy they are willing to take a larger role at this year’s event.

“We look forward to this annual event and are excited to be expanding our role this year,” said Renee Walker, event coordinator and member of Tau Xi Zeta Chapter -Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. “Our sorority is celebrating her 100th year of providing service to communities around the globe. This program is one of the many ways we are involved in our local community.”
