Austin residents invited to mayoral forum

By |

This is a call to action for the Austin community. Austin Coming Together encourages West Side residents, business owners and other stake holders to represent Austin at the “One Chicago for All Mayoral Candidates Forum.”

The forum, organized by the One Chicago for All Alliance, will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 12 at UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Road.

The One Chicago for All Alliance is a group of 30 community-based organizations and workforce development agencies representing 26 Chicago neighborhoods with a combined population of over 1 million residents.

Though these communities face unique challenges, residents are united in this vision: our neighborhoods, and the residents who live in them, deserve our investment. The forum will be an opportunity for Chicago neighborhoods to see how candidates will respond to the issues that matter to our community.

At this weekend’s forum, candidates will be provided with an opportunity to present their ideas on neighborhood access in the following areas:

  1. Careers, job opportunities and effective training
  2. Creation of functional and accessible capital for investing in neighborhoods
  3. Stable and affordable housing
  4. Quality and equitably-funded education
  5. Sanctuaries and support for immigrants
  6. Reformed policing

Free transportation via bus to the UIC Forum will depart at 10 a.m. from the office of Austin Coming Together at 5049 W. Harrison. Seats are limited, so when registering, be sure to indicate if you’ll be using the provided transportation or making your own way to UIC Forum.
