With the Feb. 15 deadline to sign up for health insurance fast approaching, West Siders can attend one of two events being held Saturday in Austin.

Sankofa Cultural Arts Center, 5820 W. Chicago Ave., will hold a tea party enrollment party from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 7 to get more people signed up for Illinois health insurance under the federal Affordable Healthcare Act.

There will be flavored teas from around the world, food, music and games; trained professionals will be on site to help with the enrollment process. All ages are welcome, and the event is free. For more information or to RSVP, call (773) 626-4497.

Bring the following documents to enroll:

  • state ID, driver’s license, passport or military ID
  • Social Security number
  • legal immigration documents
  • W-2 forms, pay stubs or tax statements

Another event will be hosted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday by Loretto Hospital, Congressman Danny K. Davis (D-Chicago), state Rep. Camille Lilly (D-Chicago) and Navigator group Ada S. McKinley Community Services Inc.

The event, held at Loretto Hospital at 645 S. Central, is part of Enroll America’s national hospital week of action to help consumers get covered before the Feb. 15 deadline for the Health Insurance Marketplace.

Attendees of the event will have the opportunity to meet with free, trained experts that will help them understand their health insurance options under the Affordable Care Act and find the plan that is right for them.
