Just a few days left to sign up for Obamacare this year

Residents of Chicago’s West Side have just three days to enroll in the health insurance marketplace before the Feb. 15 deadline.

For its final push to reach more Chicagoans, Get Covered America is hosting a blitz of enrollment events across the city and in Austin.

Another free healthcare enrollment event will be held this Saturday, Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. 3 p.m. at Loretto Hospital, 645 S. Central.

Anyone who does not sign up for insurance by Sunday’s deadline may face a fine – $325 per adult or 2 percent of household income above the federal income tax filing threshold, whichever is greater.

A number of public officials will be at Saturday’s event, including Congressman Danny K. Davis, state Rep. Camille Lilly, state Sen. Kimberly Lightford and state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford.

Consumers are asked to bring:

  • Social Security or Immigration Document Number for each person in the household
  • date of birth for each person in the household
  • employer information and tax documents for each person in the household (W-2 and other tax forms)
  • identification

In addition, hundreds of appointments are available throughout Chicago and the suburbs for free in-person enrollment assistance from experts who can explain your options and help you to choose a plan that best fits your needs and budget.
