Third Unitarian Church, 301 N. Mayfield, will hold its annual Kwanzaa ceremony this Sunday, Dec. 28th at 11 a.m.
Austin resident and church member Barbara Minor organized this special event in recognition of the African heritage in African-American culture. It also symbolizes Third Unitarian Church’s commitment to the Austin community and the strength of the community’s African roots.
Special guest Mama Kumba and past Austin scholarship winners will participate in the ceremony. A reception with refreshments will follow the ceremony.
The Kwanzaa ceremony is centered on seven principles: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith.
Kwanzaa began today Friday, Dec. 26, and ends Thursday, Jan. 1.
