CHA now accepting applications

The Chicago Housing Authority has opened its waiting lists to new applicants, and for the first time, Chicagoans can apply for three wait list lotteries using one online registration form.

CHA officials expect more than 250,000 Chicagoans to apply for spots on the three waiting list: one for public housing, another for housing vouchers and a third for apartments in privately owned subsidized housing

“I encourage all qualified low-income households to participate in the wait list opening registration,”  CHA CEO Michael R. Merchant said in a written statement.

All registrations received will have an equal chance of being selected for the electronic lottery, CHA officials say. The random lottery will be held in early 2015, and those selected will be eligible for one of the three housing programs.

The deadline to apply is Monday, Nov. 24. Applicants can apply here or can go to agency-designated community centers for help.
