Columbus Park to host “footgolf” Sunday

Columbus Park and three other local golf courses managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG) will host a footgolf fall kickoff event noon Sunday, Sept.21.

In footgolf each hole is assigned a “par,” and players tee off using a soccer ball, strategically kicking it until they make it in the 21-inch cup. Holes are cut into the rough to protect conditions of fairways and greens, and to avoid affecting everyday golfers.

Played over 18 holes at each course, entry is $20 and includes a round of footgolf, lunch and prizes. Carts and soccer balls are available to rent for $10 and $3, respectively.

“We are excited to bring this fun and widely popular golf-soccer activity to the Windy City,” said Adam Piratzky, general manager of Marquette Park Golf Course. “Footgolf represents a new way to experience a golf course, and Billy Casper Golf is ‘first-on-the-tee’ when it comes to innovation.”

Eighteen holes of footgolf can now be played at four Chicago-area BCG-managed courses, including Columbus Park, which is open from sunrise to sundown. Cost is $12 for adults and $7 for juniors and adult “advantage card” holders; and $2 for junior card holders. Cart and soccer ball rental for $11 and $3 respectively.
