Austin man remembered as role model by youth

No one has been charged in the July 11 drive-by shooting of 32-year-old Damion Bryant, who was shot to death in the 5200 block of West Quincy Street.

Youth in the neighborhood told the Chicago Sun-Times Homicide Watch they looked up to him.

And Rev. Joe Davis said his friend was a regular guy who must have been the victim of mistaken identity or a random victim.

Since Jan. 1, 23 people have been killed in Austin, according to the Chicago Tribune’s RedEye Homicide Tracker. More people have been killed in Austin than any other of the city’s 77 community areas.
